Do you layer?

Does layering MATTER…

The simple answer is yes.

The more complicated answer is…..

It depends on the products and how you apply them.

Let’s chat about why layering matters when it comes to your skin.

Just like your skin which has layers so should your skincare. We always like to say the first step is the most important, which is cleansing. If your skin is not properly cleansed than the rest of the process really doesn’t matter.

"There is such a thing as over exfoliating"

When you cleanse with the right product designed for your specific skin type and it’s issues it preps the skin to receive the rest of the products.

After cleansing we believe that a good exfoliation is a great way to slough off that dead skin, we don’t need her anymore. However, there is such a thing as over exfoliating ( see our article over exfoliation nation). It is a good idea to exfoliate once a week.

"Your PH should be between 4.75-5.75"

After you get rid of those nasty dead skin cells, it is now time to treat. We fully believe that a mask will help you repair and smooth the skin. We recommend doing this as a once a week treatment and it is a good idea to exfoliate and then mask on the same day.

Now that you have treated your skin it is now time to balance back your skin’s PH. Yes, you should be toning on a daily basis as your skin’s barrier and it’s PH is super important to healthy looking skin. Your PH on your skin should fall between 4.75-5.75 and it can become unbalanced after your treatments.

Does your skin have balance?

Once your skin is damp from your toner apply a serum that is based on your skin’s current needs. Yes, you should switch it up depending on the current state of your skin. (Take a look at our Serum Pack)

After your skin has dried, now is the time to add a moisturizer. Did you know that even oily skin need moisture? When your skin doesn’t have enough moisture it can go one of two ways either it can reach out for moisture (oily skin) and then begin to over produce sebum which can cause breakouts or when your skin is dry it can be even more dry and began to wrinkle, and nobody wants that.

"When our skin is exposed to the sun it will have DNA damage."

Lastly, one of the most important steps is a good sunscreen. We know it is hard to find a good sunscreen. We recommend Sun Bum or Goop. They are both really good and don’t leave a white cast on your skin. Our skin when it is exposed to UVA and UVB rays can and will have DNA damage that is not reversible. This is why it is so important to protect when you are out in the sun.

So, as you can see layering is super important and how you layer. We want you to

have the best skin of your life. If you need some recommendations on products feel free to send us a message. We are happy to give you a FREE consultation.

As always Take Care.
